M.S. SCHOOL COUNSELING
PORTFOLIO
Statement of Professional School Counseling Philosophy
As a dedicated school counselor, I am committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and empowering environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. I believe that counseling is not a "one-size-fits-all" approach—each student is unique and deserving of individualized support to reach their full potential.
Grounded in the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) framework, I implement evidence-based counseling strategies that address academic achievement, career readiness, and personal growth. Specifically, I practice solution-focused brief counseling (SFBC), helping my students make it through the school day and helping them to develop a plan for positive change. Through small group sessions, individualized counseling, classroom push-in lessons, and school-wide initiatives, I help students build essential skills in social-emotional development, conflict resolution, and future planning. I also prioritize culturally responsive practices, ensuring all students feel represented, understood, and supported.
Collaboration is at the heart of my counseling philosophy. I work closely with teachers, staff, families, and community partners to provide students with the resources and opportunities necessary for success. By leading parent workshops, facilitating mental health initiatives, and advocating for comprehensive support services, I strive to create a strong network of support around every student.
Additionally, I am deeply committed to school safety, violence prevention, and education reform. I develop and implement programs on bullying prevention, crisis intervention, and school-wide wellness initiatives, ensuring that students learn in a safe and nurturing environment. My mission is to empower students with the tools and confidence they need to become resilient, responsible, and engaged members of society.
